A bracing beach walk and tea at The Sitting Room tearoom in Saltburn-by-the-Sea

The Victorian seaside resort of Saltburn-by-the-Sea lies on the stunning North Yorkshire coastline. It’s a quiet, old- fashioned town with a lovely laid-back feel and a long, sandy beach which attracts both families and dog walkers. We love to stroll along the seafront, taking in the bracing North Sea air, big blue skies and seabirds fishing. The beach is also home to a thriving surfing community, award-winning pier and fish and chip shop.

After a long walk and a climb up a very steep hill,  it’s nice to sit down and enjoy a cuppa and a slice of cake. For me, there’s no better place than the quirky vintage teashop, The Sitting Room. Decorated in bold mid-century colours, a mix of retro furniture and eclectic flea market finds, the cafe is a cosy place to hang out.

Candles and fairy lights twinkle around the mantel and refreshments are served on vintage crockery.  I enjoyed a slice of the white chocolate, rose and pistachio and a cup of locally roasted coffee from Baytown whilst my son devoured a piece of the rainbow cake. Next door to the cafe you can peruse their recently opened vintage and lifestyle store too. A great way to round off your day at the coast.
